Trellian Web Page

6th October 2007

Why do I like Trellian Web Page and think it might be worth downloading?

Besides the fact that it is free and according to Trellian will always stay so;

  • You can open any html, php or similar pages in it (many freeware html editors cannot open .php files nor even .htm / .html files, you have to create them within their own environment and save them with a file extension only this program can open, then export the files as .htm / .html)
  • Preview within the program! You do not have to launch your browser to preview and see your work.
  • WYSIWYG. “What You See Is What You Get” is not a necessity for me, and truth to be told mainly due to the way these editors render the code I have to spend more time cleaning up the code for SEO reasons. Still, if this is what you want this program as one of the few free html editors supports it.
  • Built in FTP, that says it all.
  • Graphics, it can import the major image formats used for web design, such as JPEG and PNG, and has support for thousands of Photoshop Plugins.
  • Small size, less than 8 MB installer, and fast loading. If you need to do things in a brief it is easy to fire up and get things done.

This software is very useful for beginning webmasters, both for its ease of use, its full range of options and the simple fact that it is a free download, something every entreprenour appreciates.

Something negative as well; Trellian is a commercial company after all, during installation the software will ask you what you want to install, and a “full installation” includes ToolbarBrowser and SEO Toolkit, these two software options are not part of Trellian Web Page. Uncheck them. SEO Toolkit is a trial version of the commercial product from Trellian, and the ToolbarBrowser they offer is rather useless in my opinion.
